Champagne Bérêche & Fils

Champagne Bérêche et Fils has become one of the most significant and influential producers in the Champagne region, thanks to the visionary leadership of brothers Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche. Over the past two decades, they have elevated the estate to the upper echelon of both house and grower Champagne, earning praise from top wine critics and connoisseurs around the world. Founded in 1847, the domaine’s legacy has been transformed by the brothers’ relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence, making it a benchmark for high-quality, expressive Champagne. Their wines are celebrated across France and internationally for their unique character, which reflects not only the estate’s rich heritage but also its forward-thinking approach.

At the heart of Champagne Bérêche et Fils' significance is its unparalleled dedication to terroir-driven winemaking. The estate’s vineyards, spread across prestigious sites in the Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne, produce some of the region's most complex and refined Champagnes. The brothers' commitment to sustainable viticulture, having banned chemical herbicides since 2003 and moving toward biodynamic practices, underscores their role as leaders in responsible farming. Each of their meticulously crafted cuvées—from their signature Brut Réserve to their rare single-village expressions—demonstrates a profound understanding of terroir, grape varietals, and artisanal methods. By reviving traditional techniques, such as aging under cork and vinifying each parcel separately, Bérêche et Fils sets a standard of excellence that has made them indispensable to the world of fine Champagne.

Domaine Guiberteau

Domaine Guiberteau has emerged as one of the most important producers in Saumur, recognized for crafting extraordinary wines that showcase the region's potential. Under the leadership of Romain Guiberteau, a protégé of the renowned Clos Rougeard, the estate has embraced biodynamic farming and minimal intervention winemaking, elevating its wines to the highest level of acclaim. Known for stunning expressions of both Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc, Guiberteau’s wines are celebrated for their purity and elegance, rivaling top wines from Burgundy, Bordeaux, and beyond. The domaine's whites, in particular, are praised for their class, while the reds offer a unique and exceptional take on Cabernet Franc, defying expectations of what Saumur can produce.

Since taking over the estate in 1996, Romain Guiberteau has transformed his family’s vineyards, located around Saint-Just-sur-Dive, into a beacon of quality in the Loire Valley. With 17 hectares of organically farmed vines, the domaine produces wines with a deep sense of place, particularly from standout sites like Brézé and Le Clos de Guichaux. Hand-harvested and made with minimal intervention, Guiberteau’s wines reflect the philosophy he learned at Clos Rougeard, emphasizing precision and terroir expression. The combination of careful farming and masterful winemaking has placed Domaine Guiberteau alongside France’s finest, with wines that are highly sought after for their complexity, refinement, and value.

Champagne Bérêche et Fils 'Campania Remensis'
Extra Brut Rosé, 2020
$139.99
(3 Bottles Available)

Bérêche’s 'Campania Remensis' is an extraordinary rosé Champagne crafted from a single terroir in the village of Ormes, west of Reims in the Petite Montagne. The wine’s name, "Campania Remensis," is a nod to the Roman name for the Reims countryside. Made from a blend of two-thirds Pinot Noir—including a touch of still wine for color—and one-third Chardonnay with a splash of Meunier, this wine is a painstaking labor of love and is only made in the best vintages. The old vines, planted by the brothers’ maternal grandmother in the 1950s, yield grapes that are aged in barrels on lees, giving the wine its distinctive texture and complexity. The result is a Champagne of elegance and originality, with a pale, shell-pink hue and delicate aromas of wild berries and blossoms. On the palate, it offers vibrant acidity, notes of lingonberry, dry tobacco leaves, and a chalky minerality. Only 540 cases made.

Champagne Bérêche et Fils
Ormes Rouge 'Les Montées'
Coteaux Champenois
$129.99
(2 Bottles Available)

Unlike the famous sparkling wines of the area, Coteaux Champenois focuses on still wines, providing a fascinating counterpart to Burgundy reds. The appellation’s terroir, particularly in the Montagne de Reims where Bérêche & Fils is based, is ideal for Pinot Noir and Meunier due to its cool climate and chalky, limestone-rich soils. “Les Montées” exemplifies this terroir with its deep ruby color and aromas of blackberry, raspberry, currant, and hints of tobacco. After hand-harvesting, the grapes undergo natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by 12 months of aging in barrels. Bottled without filtration, this wine showcases the pure expression of Champagne’s still wine heritage, offering a mineral-driven profile. Only 880 bottles produced!
