Romain Chamiot “Apremont”

Vin de savoie, france |  2021

There are always new discoveries to be made in the world of French wine. You know the classic story: new generation takes over, improves farming, bringing a whole new dynamic to a winery that needed a spark.

Such is the story with Romain Chamiot. Born into a winemaking family, he decided to pursue the family business, attending school in Beaune in Burgundy. Upon returning to the domaine, he took over the vines of his grandfather, Jérôme Tardy, converting to organic viticulture.

In total he farms 5 hectares of vineyards, spread through 30 different parcels in two AOC, Savoie and Savoie Aprémont. The name of the AOC comes from the vineyards position after Mount Granier. The majority of Romain’s vines are planted to Jacquère, a local white Alpine varietal, that makes for mineral, fresh and easy to drink white wines. Luckily for Romain, the majority of his vines are 40 to 50 years, old with some even surpassing 80. This is another key to the quality of the domaine.

The 2021 Aprémont is everything we desire in an Alpine white wine, fresh, with bright citrus notes along with white flowers. Pure and fresh on the palate, it is a true vin de plaisir. Perfect for apéro alongside cheese and smoked fish.
