Habit Wine Company “Red Blend”

Santa Ynez Valley, California |  2021

Starting in his garage in Los Angeles, Jeff Fischer eventually founded Habit Wine Company in Los Olivos, California. With seven wines produced, he is dedicated to making varietally correct wines, with an emphasis on lower alcohol and higher acidity, in short, balanced wines that make you want to come back glass after glass. We here at Le Midi say mission accomplished!

The Red Blend cuvée was the first wine produced at Habit Wine Company back in 2008. A blend of Rhône varietals, with 50% whole cluster Syrah, 25% Grenache and 25% Cinsault. Jeff ferments the wine in open top vessels, crushing the grapes by foot, and then it is aged on the fine lees in neutral French oak.

We love this wine for its vibrant red fruit tones, hints at classic Rhône varietal spices, and a juicy and fresh finish. If you want to put a slight chill on it adds to the freshness. This versatile red will work with a wide range of foods from grilled salmon to BBQ chicken.

It is a wine that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it once again proves that California can make excellent value reds that even us with a more European focused palate will enjoy.
