Naboso “Doma”

slovakia |  2020

A few months back you may recall a playful by-the-glass red wine we served with the eye-catching label of a beret-wearing figure on it? That was 'Zore' from the Slovakian winery, Noboso. The label may have bore a striking resemblance to a certain someone (yes, me), making it all the more intriguing. (Not so much the case for this label!)

Falling head over heels for Naboso's captivating backstory and the remarkable craftsmanship of its talented team, Nadja and Andrej, I couldn't resist bringing you another gem from their collection. 'Doma' is an orange wine that perfectly complements the diverse feast that graces your Thanksgiving table. I've always believed that orange wines are meant to enhance the dining experience, and 'Doma' is a prime example.

Nadja, hailing from Germany, and Andrej, a true Slovakian, embarked on their winemaking journey while working together at a wine bar in Copenhagen. Their passion led them to the quaint village of Sväty Jur, where the idea of Noboso was born. It was also the place where Nadja's love for Andrej and Slovakia unfolded, setting the stage for the creation of this exceptional winery.

Andrej, with over a decade of winemaking under his belt, may have operated somewhat under the radar, but his experiences and dedication are nothing short of extraordinary. He possesses a remarkable palate, an unquenchable thirst for learning and improvising, and an infectious enthusiasm for the art of winemaking. It's evident in every bottle he crafts, and his technical finesse is a testament to his deep love for the craft.

At Noboso, every facet of winemaking, from tending the vineyards to the meticulous work in the cellar, from business management to creating the label artwork, is lovingly undertaken by this dynamic duo and their lovable vineyard terrier, Ryba. Their hands-on approach ensures that each bottle bears the stamp of their unwavering dedication.

The name doma translates to "home" in Slovak, and it embodies the shared passion, relentless hard work, and unwavering dedication of Nadja and André. It's a limited-production gem that encapsulates the essence of Slovakia's viticultural heritage. This unique wine is a blend of white varietals including Welschriesling, Grüner Veltliner, Red Sylvaner, and Red Traminer. After spending 14 days on its skins and aging for one year in oak and acacia barrels, it's bottled unfined and unfiltered. 'Doma' is the perfect match for your Thanksgiving spread whether it's the turkey, stuffing, gravy, or various other meats and sides!
