Wine Notes
Wine Club Selections
Domaine Viret “Renaissance”
VIN DE FRANCE, FRANCE | 2017
There is so much attention to detail that goes into this form of winemaking that it’s one of the very few 100% natural wines that can age for many years.
Tatomer “Kick-On Ranch”, Riesling
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA | 2016
Kick-On Ranch is a single vineyard located on top of the Pacific Ocean just north of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, and because of the ocean’s constant air currents, it is known to be the chilliest and windiest site in all of Santa Barbara County.
Cigliuti “Langhe Nebbiolo”
PIEDMONT, ITALY | 2020
Cigliuti is one of the great small producers of the Barbaresco DOCG, located just outside the village of Neive.
Quinta das Bàgeiras “Avô Fausto” Branco
BAIRRADA, PORTUGAL | 2020
Produced from very old-vine Maria Gomes from a single vineyard noted for its early ripening, and low yields.
Bosman Family Vineyards “Twyfeling”
WELLINGTON, SOUTH AFRICA | 2019
As pretty as this wine is, it’s also got equally the same amount of power. Like an iron fist in a velvet glove.
Domaine Anne-Sophie Dubois “L’Alchemiste”
FLEURIE, CRU BEAUJOLAIS | 2021
The vines for “L’Alchimiste” are more than 40 years old and planted on the granitic soils in the lieu-dit of Les Labourons.
Fosso Degli Angeli “Chiusa”
SANNIO FIANO, ITALY | 2021
The 2021 “Chiusa” has beautiful aromas of citrus, almond, mango and flowers.
Recaredo “Terres Brut Nature” Corpinnat
PENEDES, SPAIN | 2015
This Gran Reserva bottling from 2015 rested on its lees for five years, was all hand harvested, and farmed 100% biodynamically with no dosage making the terroir the center of attention.
Domaine Gour de Chaulé “Tradition”
GIGONDAS, FRANCE | 2019
“Tradition” is a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre whole-cluster fermented to allow some contact with these lignified stems that reflect the terroir and nuance the vines have built over the century.
Francesca Fiasco “Ersa”
PAESTUM ROSSO, ITALY | 2018
The 2018 “Ersa” is a fantastic red wine value. Beautiful aromas of wild cherry, rhubarb, menthol, and mineral. Medium bodied on the palate, with soft tannins and good freshness. People from Campania are always thinking about food, and wine is part of the experience.
Kobal “Old Vine Selections”
HALOZE HILLS, SLOVENIA | 2018
Coming from the ancient Haloze Hills and averaging 35 years in age, the vines of this estate are all considered to be “Old Vines” which contribute to the body’s layers and complexity, but this Furmint also sees 24 hours of extended skin contact giving it even more character and richness.
Vices and Vertus “Orgueil”
MUSCADET DE SÈVRE-ET-MAINE, FRANCE | NV
The “Orgueil” brut rosé is made entirely in-house using the méthode traditionelle. The Cabernet Franc grapes are hand harvested and directly pressed, with a short maceration. This wine is a delicious accompaniment to a tray of briny oysters, but it’s also perfect on its own as an aperitif.
Domaine Monier “Viognier-Roussanne”
NORTHERN RHÔNE, FRANCE | 2021
Beautiful aromas of peach, almond skin, citrus oil and spice. A medium-bodied white, perfect for winter drinking, and a great match for lobster, langoustines, or even a tagine with chicken, green olives and apricots.
Cadre “Band of Stones”
EDNA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA | 2021
Coming from SIP Sustainably Certified 15-year-old vines in the southwestern flanks of the historic Paragon Vineyard, “Band of Stones” is pure electricity and concentration wrapped in one perfect package.
Baptiste Nayrand “L’Astrale”
COTEAU DU LYONNAIS, FRANCE | 2020
The mixture of old vine Gamay and whole cluster fermentation brings with it a sense of the Northern Rhône with its power and structure alongside the delicate nature of Beaujolais. This is not a Gamay for the faint of heart!
Poderi Luigi Einaudi “Nebbiolo”
PIEDMONT, ITALY | 2021
Beautiful aromas of wild cherries, currant and spice can be found on the nose. Medium bodied, with soft tannins, and a bright, balanced finish. A great wine to pair with food, try the classic Tajarin pasta with a meat and porcini tomato sauce.
McKinlay Vineyards Pinot Noir
WILLAMETTE VALLEY, OREGON | 2021
The 2021 offers beautiful notes of wild cherry, raspberry, and herbs. True to form, this wine is ultra silky, with a repetition of red fruit flavors, spice cake, and a long, elegant finish. Pair this with a classic roast chicken.
Antoine Jobard, Bourgogne Aligoté
BURGUNDY, FRANCE | 2020
Notes of white flowers, fresh peach, and lime zest. Light-bodied, with plenty of mineral and citrus notes on the long, refreshing finish. It is an ideal match with simply prepared shellfish, but can also go with a pasta tossed in pesto.
Viñatigo “Listàn Negro”
CANARY ISLANDS, SPAIN | 2021
This Listàn Negro is delicious with ripe strawberry and cherry on the nose opening up to a mineral rich palate that has elements of smoke on the finish. This is a fantastic BBQ or charcuterie wine and is best served a bit chilled.
Supernatural Wine Co. “The Super-Nat”
HAWKE’S BAY, NEW ZEALAND | 2020
Delicious and unlike anything else I have ever tasted in a Sauvignon Blanc: dominant green apple and lemon curd driven by an incredible gingery cream finish and wafts of rosemary and honey.
